Unstoppable Domains sites now accessible with Brave browser

By Alice Leetham - min read

Brave users can now access 30,000 decentralised websites and 700,000 blockchain domain names registered with Unstoppable Domains

Privacy-focused browser Brave announced yesterday a new collaboration with blockchain domain name provider Unstoppable Domains that will allow users to surf the decentralised web with the latest Brave update.

Unstoppable Domains has been around since 2018 and sells .crypto and other domain names for a one time registration fee. Users can send and receive 50 different cryptocurrencies with just one domain, removing the need for long, complicated cryptocurrency addresses and the risk of sending coins to the wrong address. MyEtherWallet, Coinbase Wallet, OKEx, Litewallet, and dozens of other wallets and exchanges already support Unstoppable Domains.

Domain names can also be pointed to content hosted on the web or a decentralised storage network such as IPFS. In addition to Brave, Unstoppable Domains is also supported natively by Opera and via extensions by Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

Co-founder of Unstoppable Domains, Matthew Gould, commented, “We’re on a mission to onboard three billion people to the decentralized web, and Brave is bringing us millions of people closer to that goal. We see Web3 as the future of the internet, where everyone has ownership and control of their own content. Brave’s integration with Unstoppable Domains means easy access to the decentralized internet without the hassle of browser extensions or custom DNS settings.”

Brave currently has over 30 million monthly active users who will now have access to 30,000 decentralised websites, such as non-fungible token (NFT) art gallery Brad.crypto, digital asset swapping site Kyber.crypto, and decentralised video hosting provider voodfy.crypto. Brave users can also access more than 700,000 blockchain domain names registered with Unstoppable Domains.

Co-founder of Brave, Brian Bondy, explained, “At Brave, we see Web3 as a stepping stone to the future of digital ownership and decentralization. Unstoppable Domains was a natural fit for us, giving our users access to the decentralized web with the ability to visit any .crypto domain name. From registering .crypto domains to hosting an NFT art gallery, to sending and receiving crypto, the possibilities are limitless for Brave users.”

Buying domain names gives users full ownership and control as they are minted as NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Websites built and hosted through Unstoppable Domains form a decentralised network, which, unlike the traditional Domain Name Service (DNS) isn’t vulnerable to hijacking and phishing and denial-of-service attacks.
