Bitcoin payments processor BitPay adds support for Apple Pay

Holders of the BitPay Mastercard can now turn their crypto into dollars with a smartphone

Blockchain payment processing pioneer, BitPay, announced on Friday that they were adding support for Apple Pay. BitPay prepaid Mastercard holders in the US can now add their card to Apple Wallet and spend crypto with Apple Pay.

Since 2011, BitPay has been transforming the way people hold, send and receive money, such as enabling borderless payments in cryptocurrency. The BitPay Wallet and BitPay Prepaid Card allows customers to turn their digital assets into dollars and spend them at tens of thousands of different businesses.

Holders of the BitPay Mastercard can now make secure purchases in stores, online and in apps following the announcement of support for Apple Pay. Also, customers still waiting for their plastic card to be delivered can start spending immediately by adding their virtual card to Apple Wallet via the BitPay Wallet app.

CEO of BitPay, Stephen Pair, commented, “We have thousands of BitPay Wallet app customers using the BitPay Card who are always looking for new places and ways to spend their crypto. Adding Apple Pay and soon Google and Samsung Pay makes it easy and convenient to use the BitPay Card in more places from day-to-day items to luxury purchases.”

Paying with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies has become easier, safer and faster than ever before through BitPay, with Bitcoin being involved in the vast majority of payments processed by the crypto payments firm, according to statistics published last year. As well as Bitcoin, the BitPay Wallet app currently supports Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and the dollar-pegged stablecoins USDC, BUSD, GUSD and PAX.

The BitPay card can be used to instantly buy gift cards in store or online at hundreds of retailers and can be used anywhere around the world where Mastercard debit is accepted. As well as its utility for online payments, customers can use the BitPay card to withdraw cash at ATMs.

BitPay filed an application with the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in December to establish a BitPay National Trust Bank, and just last week, they announced that insurance company Generali would soon accept crypto payments for policy premiums using BitPay.

BitPay plans to add support for Google Pay and Samsung Pay later this quarter.
