Retail giant Amazon is searching for staff with experience in decentralised finance. The chosen candidate will fill the role of Blockchain Head of Product.

Retail and tech giant Amazon is looking for an expert in the decentralised finance space to take up the position of Blockchain Head of Product in the company. According to Amazon’s job post, the ideal candidate must have experience in the DeFi sector.

The ad stated that “The candidate will have a track record delivering outstanding products at scale in emerging spaces, and is passionate about blockchain, distributed systems and cloud-scale software. Ideally, you will have experience delivering products or innovations in the blockchain space, and in particular DeFi or Traditional Financial Services.”

A key requirement for the job is to have experience with blockchain frameworks, technology and applications, including Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric. The position is within the Amazon Web Service. This Amazon unit has been working on Amazon Managed Blockchain, a platform that makes it easy for users to manage scalable blockchain networks leveraging the open-source Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum frameworks.

There are speculations that Amazon is set to enter the cryptocurrency space in a big way. The company is rumoured to be looking for staff to develop a digital payment token. The digital payment token appears to be part of the company’s emerging-payments initiative to launch in Mexico.

According to the company, “Amazon Managed Blockchain (AMB) is a fully managed service that accelerates customers’ ability to create and leverage scalable blockchain technology for current and innovative business use cases across DeFi, Supply Chain, Financial Services, Identity, and more.”

The growth of the DeFi space seems to have caught Amazon’s attention as the company highlighted the need for DeFi experience three times in the job post.
